The term ‘bar stools’ is a bit of a misnomer. It conjures up images of old-fashioned, dark and smoky drinking establishments. Bar stools today are really kitchen bench stools. A place for doing homework, having a cup of tea or a glass of wine, and for chatting with the cook. They come in a huge variety of styles and you’re sure to find some that fit in perfectly with your kitchen.
In this first image, the contemporary country style bar stools fit beautifully into this largely timber kitchen. The golden leather upholstery adds another layer of authentic, natural materials to the room.
A different style of country kitchen next. This time more feminine with a cream and black colour palette. See how well the wicker work on the stools echoes the pattern on the tiled splashback. In this example, the stools have just about morphed into fully fledged chairs. Remember that not everyone who comes to your kitchen is as sprightly as they once were!
Another stool/chair hybrid in this ultra contemporary kitchen. Here the leather strapped seats add some much needed colour and texture to an otherwise subdued room. Don’t be afraid to choose a style of bar stool that adds a bold design element.
And I guess you can’t get much bolder than bright yellow! These powder-coated metal chairs add a pop of happiness into this comfortable and welcoming family kitchen.
When you’re shopping for bar stools, make sure you know the exact height of the bench you want to pair them with. Too high and you’ll be knocking your knees. Too low and you’ll feel like you’ve been sent to the kindy kids’ table!
