The very fact that we use the term Powder Room to describe our guest toilets, suggests that these rooms are a bit different from the rest of our home. A Powder Room is an excuse to go crazy with design elements you absolutely adore. The room’s only small so you can select some glamorous, or even eccentric pieces and make your Powder Room a little design jewel box.
If you’ve been too scared to use wallpaper in other rooms, this is a great place to go all out. The first image reminds us that wallpaper doesn’t have to be floral and feminine (although that would look great too!). This wallpaper is like a perfectly tailored suit.
Lighting is another area where you can let loose. In the main bathroom and ensuite, lighting is mostly about having a clear view to do your hair and makeup. In Powder Rooms, lighting can be all about mood (think candlelight rather than fluorescent). Your guests will enjoy how glamorous they look when they excuse themselves from your fabulous dinner party!
And a mirror can be anything but plain and functional. Find something wonderfully vintage or artistic to take pride of place.
Colour is another way to be bold. Choose a hue that is strong and confident, even if the rest of your home is light and airy.
Powder Rooms are the perfect opportunity to go big in a little space. Stretch your design wings and try something new. At the very worst it’s going to be a talking point. At the very best, you might start sneaking some of your bolder design choices into the rest of your home.
