Some of us like surprises and some of us don’t. If you fall into the latter category, you may like to know a little bit more about what’s going to happen on the Home Matters Tour on Sunday 7 November before you commit. I get that, so I’ve written a blog with a lot more details specially for you.
If you do like surprises then don’t read any further. Come along on the tour and enjoy its twists and turns as they happen. This is your official spoiler alert!
The first thing that will happen is that you’ll park your car at one of the three showrooms we’ll be visiting on the tour. The three showrooms are Caesarstone at Hindmarsh, Miele at Hilton and Scammells Auction House at Norwood. You’ll be allocated a starting place and a starting time of either 9.30, 10.00, 10.30 or 11.00am. Each showroom will be set up with a variety of ‘market stalls’ featuring local artists, makers and shop-keepers.
Let’s say you start your tour at Scammells Auction House. Scammells are one of the few remaining auctioneers who understand what it means to be a ‘full-service auction room’. For sellers and buyers, they offer a complete service including appraisal, packaging, research, and auction.
Scammells will have loads of second-hand furniture, homewares and other goodies on display ready for their next week’s auctions. Scammells have also created their own art gallery called ‘endspace’. Enjoy their current exhibition called “Under a Shared Sky” that features the work of Duncan Young, Lucy Timbrell, Thomas Readett and Annelise Forster. Scammells will also give a short talk about buying second-hand for your home.
As Scammells is all about buying and selling sustainably, one of the ‘market stalls’ at Scammells will be EcoLateral. Ecolateral helps people like you make positive changes for the benefit of our planet. They source and provide the goods so you can be assured the choices you’re making are sustainable ones. Stock up on environmentally friendly goods for your home. (All the ‘market stalls’ will be set up for card sales. Bring your re-usable shopping bags.)
You can also taste wine from the oldest organic winery in the Barossa, explore the wonders of chalk painting (a great way to up-cycle your furniture purchases from Scammells!), and delight in the rusty metal garden sculptures from A Rustic World by Hayden. Hayden lives and works on a farm in the beautiful Adelaide Hills and many of his creations are inspired by the farm’s menagerie of many animals and birds.
At this point you’ll hop on a bus to take you to your next showroom.
At Miele it’s all about food and art. Enjoy some brunch-inspired hors d’oeuvres created by the Miele chefs with a glass of wine or barista-made cup of coffee. All drinks, nibbles and tastings on the tour are free.
Four talented artists, all working in different media and styles, will display their artworks. Whether you’re ready to invest in an original artwork, or if limited edition prints, greeting cards and tea-towels are more your speed, there will be plenty of artistic variety to enjoy.
At Caesarstone, be refreshed and intrigued with a tasting of paired organic teas and artisan chocolates. (Surely you will need to buy some delicious treats to take home for yourself and others?). Discover the delightful floral ceramics created by Pia Hutchings with inspiration from her own, and others’ Adelaide gardens. Meet Pebble & Palm Interiors who are a small homewares store that specialises in coastal and tropical styling, as well as offering personalised home styling advice. They believe in creating love-filled spaces that reflect those who live and love in them.
Explore locally-designed cushions and table napkins in bold, colourful patterns. While browsing the ‘market stalls’, enjoy a delicious nibble of something still to be confirmed!
Our air-conditioned bus will then drop you back at your starting point at either 2.00, 2.30, 3.00 or 3.30pm.
Home Matters is a fun day out with your girlfriends, mothers, daughters and sisters. You’ll get to meet fabulous Adelaide locals who are creating and curating wonderful things for your home. It’s a great opportunity to support local small businesses as you start your Christmas shopping. And, of course, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t treat yourself with some purchases along the way!
And all this for only $55.
Come by yourself or come with others – you’ll have fun either way. Click on the link below to purchase your tickets.
