Recreation Center is a ceramic studio founded by Josephine Heilpern. All pieces are hand made, for day-to-day use and enjoyment, in Brooklyn, New York.
“I’ve always been interested in making functional objects. I do like decorative pieces too, but I prefer items that are used every day. When I get an email or Instagram message from someone saying they woke up that day and used my mug, it’s so insanely important and amazing — that a random stranger can be like, you made this, and it makes my morning better!” says Josephine.
Josephine does everything herself – from designing to making to filling orders.
Her shapes are simple. Her patterns are bold with perhaps a hint of the Memphis Group.
Recreation Center reminds us that so many of life’s greatest pleasures are in the everyday.
