I do love a great black and white interior (even if my personality can’t live with the absence of colour in my own home!). Black and white always feels fresh and contemporary – like the morning after a big storm.
This first image shows how fabulous black and white can look in graphic patterns. And the rough finish on the brick walls is a perfect background. A good idea to roughen black and white up a bit so it doesn’t comes across as too clinical.
The stone wall in this second image creates a similar effect, adding texture and a hint of colour. Love how the fire surround and the armchair are totally opposite in form, and yet how well they work together. When in doubt, paint it black!
And don’t be frightened to paint your walls or ceilings black. Just make sure you’ve got enough white, and natural light, to balance it all out.
Black and white is a classic in the bathroom. If you’re selecting black tapware it’s a good idea to continue the black through all the accessories. In this last photo you can see how the shower curtain rail, mirror frame and artwork frame all form a perfect set. Add a little warmth with a brass light fitting and timber vanity.
Black and white interiors never date, plus they work well in both older and modern homes. Maybe it’s time to add a little black and white!
