Buying a great bed is the place to start, but you’ll need a few more steps before your bedroom’s truly ‘Breakfast in Bed’ ready.
First of all – colour. Even if the rest of your home is light and neutral, your bedroom is the perfect space to delight in your favourite colour palette – however dramatic. Daffodil yellow walls with sky blue bedlinen. Or gorgeously patterned wallpaper. Perhaps even dark and moody hues that envelop you in visual comfort.
Your bedroom is a personal space and you should wake up everyday in a room that you love. Surround yourself with visual connections to your memories and aspirations. Your children’s artwork (framed of course!), the dressing table that reminds you of long-ago holidays at your grandmother’s house, the beautiful handmade bowl you brought back from a wonderful adventure.
I have a client who, having been through some major life changes, decided that she would like the first thing she sees every morning to be an Inspiration Board. A beautiful framed pinboard where she can collect images, words and experiences to help her explore how she will create and celebrate her life going forward.
So don’t forget to make your bedroom a personal space of warmth and re-fuelling. Then you’ll be ready to give yourself, or someone else you love, the ultimate luxury of a delicious breakfast in bed.
